Robb grew up in a fly fishing family here in the north state. He has been fishing and guiding these waters for over 40 years. For the past decade and a half he’s been chasing fish and water all over the western states and in Alaska for himself and his clients. Born and raised on rivers, Robb is a natural steward of our waterways and wants to help spread his passion for taking care of our rivers. Education is the best way to achieve this and there is no better place to start than your own back yard.

I have fished with Robb on many of our valley rivers. His knowledge of the local fisheries and ecosystem is impressive. Beside putting you on fish, Robb will provide an education, allowing you to have future success. His enthusiasm also makes for an enjoyable day on the river.
Spent a wonderful day on the Sac River with Robb! His drift boat is extremely comfortable and his boat handling skills and knowledge of river ecology had me immediately relaxed. I thoroughly enjoyed the quiet solitude of the river corridor with occasional calls of belted kingfishers, woodpeckers, quails, and red tailed hawks as well as sightings of river otters, beavers, turtles, ospreys, herons, swallows, bald eagles and lots of other wildlife along the riparian banks. A fabulous trip!
Robb, we had one of the best days our family has experienced in a long time! Your patience with the beginners was appreciated. The progress we made and the joy of becoming very efficient in a short time was rewarding and added to an amazing day. We’re already planning our next trip and have recommended your services to several of our friends and close family.
Thanks again— you’re a real professional and a river guide’s guide!
I’ve been hiring Robb as a fly fishing guide for the last 8 years. We have fished the lower Sac, Yuba and the Feather together. The knowledge he has and the ability to put his clients on fish is top notch. From novice to expert fly fisherman, Robb can customize your trip to improve your skills, catch and you will have a great day on the water.
I took my mom out on the Yuba River Fall of 2010, who had never fly fished before. Within one hour of instruction, my mom was catching fish on the fly. Mom had a blast! She landed about 15 rainbow trout and has been hooked ever since. Whenever we get together we talk about that special day.
My best day on the river with Robb was Spring steelhead fishing on the Feather in 2012. Robb called me on a Tuesday. Told me I would be calling in sick on Thursday because, “It’s happening.” I took his advice and the day was epic. My best day ever! I hooked over 20 fish and landed over half of them. I will use Robb for all of my future fly fishing needs. Thanks again!
From the put-in at Balls Ferry, to the final destination at Bend Bridge, I had the most amazing time. It was quite the luxury to be in a comfy, personal seat with binoculars and an earful of river history. Learning about the riparian corridor along this stretch of the Sac gave me more of an appreciation for Gage’s commitment to take people to the river so they can experience how beautiful and fragile the ecosystem really is.

WooHoo! Just got home from an Eco trip on the beautiful Sacramento River, west of Chico. It was getting close to sunset when our guide launched the boat, and we started drifting downstream. I had envisioned hard wooden seats and a sore backside, but the boat (brand new) had a very comfortable captain's seat for each of us, and plenty of leg room. The seats swivel, so conversation among all four guests was easy to achieve.
As the big Harvest moon started to show along the horizon, with its reflection glinting on the smooth, quiet water beneath our boat, it fell silent in the boat - I think we all were just soaking in the moment and the beauty of a Moonlight Float! Then&ellips; SLAP&ellips; a large beaver was within perhaps 30 feet of the boat, barely visible in the near complete darkness! Our guide pointed a flashlight in his direction, and several times the beaver slapped the water's surface with his formidable tail, holding his ground, warning us that THIS WAS HIS TERRITORY AND WE WERE INTRUDING!
Our guide rowed us close to shore, tossed out the anchor and out came the hot coffee and homemade apple crisp! Does it get anymore relaxing?? Fresh air, crickets chirping, the quiet roll of the water past the boat, the Harvest Moon in full view, good company - better than a day at the Spa. This was a first for me, but it won't be a last!
